Brewing with a French Press/Cafetiere

Updated: May 21, 2023

Here's how to make a brewtiful fresh coffee using a French Press or Cafetiere as it's often called.

We've based this recipe on using a 350ml cafetière, making coffee for one, increase quantities based on your cafetière size.

Step 1

Start with some freshly ground Llanwern coffee,

Add 21 grams (or 4 level tbspns) of coffee to the press

Step 2

Boil your water & pour the required amount over the coffee.

Leave the press for 4 minutes.

Step 3

Take a large spoon & stir the crust that has formed on top gently.

Step 4

Using two large spoons scoop off any foam and floating ground coffee

Wait another 3-5 mins for the grounds to sink to the bottom

Step 5

Insert the plunger and press gently until the mesh is on the very top of the liquid coffee

Do not plunge to the bottom or this can churn up the sediment and cause an unpleasant chalky sediment in your cup

Step 6

Pour gently into a cup, stop before pouring the very last of the liquid which contains coffee sediment

Enjoy!
